chalk mission statement

.

The sole purpose of Chalk is to help writers in a variety of ways. Our mission is to encourage evolution, to teach writers how to take criticism and use it to their advantage, as well as reach out to their potential. There are number of opportunities for writers' work to make it onto the site, and a variety of ways to be seen and heard. Writers may submit writing articles, short story ads, tutor applications, story recommendations and author recommendations, they may apply for reviews, author adverts, and tutors. They may also submit their own personal writing sites as well as community writing sites for affiliation. Chalk is unique because it encourages participation, and without a community, there is no Chalk.

Beginnings

.

I used to be the creator and owner of Infamy, which started out as an index for quality writers. As it grew, and grew, and features were added, I found that I couldn't keep up with the ebb and flow of applications, critiques, as well as keeping up with a forum, and having to work with my other staff members to do so. Eventually, the love I had for Infamy faded out and I decided that I wasn't helping writers by letting them onto the index or not. And so I set out to create a new site that encouraged participation from readers, that had a writer's interest at hand, and ultimately, a site that helped writers all alike: the mature writer and the young writer. By a stroke of genius, Chalk was created, carefully planned out and created with precision.

"Writing…is my life. I love writing so much that I tend to disregard everything else that’s happening in the world just to spend time with myself and my characters. Sometimes I wish I could be “normal” and then I realize that being who I am, and what I am, makes me special because, if I think really hard on it, I know myself. I know every little thing that there is to know about me because tiny bits of my persona are in every last stinking one of my characters. I’ve been wounded with very few negative comments and have grown from them, maturing as both a person and a writer. There’s no substitute for the rush of getting comments on a story, or the serenity of being alone with people that aren’t real. I know that I have potential; I just really want other people to see it too."
